Review of Scoop (2006) by Andy A — 08 Jul 2009
A sadly overlooked little gem from the great Woody Allen. It's full of problems and plot holes, yes, but it overcomes them by being damn fun and filled with a life and love of film that is rarely seen anymore.
Who else would have the balls to make a film with big stars that centers on such an absurd premise as the one presented here? Johansson, who is actually pretty awful in the scenes by herself, plays off of Allen wonderfully when they're together.
As for Allen himself, he is as alive and narcissistic as ever with the same dry comedic timing that we've come to expect, and he delivers some uproariously funny one-liners in the process. While Scoop may not be an Earth-shattering piece of cinema, it is damn fun.
