Review of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998) by Luke S — 28 May 2012

This is one of the older style Scooby-Doo movies, released in 1998, that featured a different type of animation and a cast of voice actors that varies greatly from the more recent lineup that we all know and love.

The story is an interesting one, actually, as in the beginning of the film Mystery, Inc. have gone their separate ways. Daphne is now a reporter and has a popular TV show produced by Fred, Velma is working in a book store, while Shaggy and Scooby are working customs at the airport.

But when Daphne's next series of shows see her set out across America in search of real life ghosts stories, not just bad guys wearing masks, Fred gets the brilliant idea to reunite the entire team for the adventure! Their first stop is Louisiana .

. . and there they find their story. A local girl by the name of Lena tells the gang of a haunted area called Moonscar Island. Offering to take them to said island the gang agrees to go with Lena, once ferried over to Moonscar Island they meet Lena's employer, a rich woman named Simone.

Simone offers the gang lodging at her estate and explains that the island is haunted thanks to the pirate Morgan Moonscar, who raided the island approximately 300 years ago. Not long after, Mystery, Inc.

starts to see evidence of the hauntings Lena and Simone talked about, but all is not exactly as it seems. As the mystery unfolds the gang finds out that the hauntings are indeed genuine, there are no crooks wearing masks on this island, but the true nature of their enemy is what will surprise them most.

This film was yet another solid entry in the vast Scooby-Doo library of movies. Although I do prefer the newer style over the slightly older style, these older films are great in their own right. A couple of things I really liked about this installment was the fact that Mystery, Inc.

was broken up at the beginning of it, and I also liked how the theme of the movie was that they were looking for real monsters, not fake monsters, which they indeed found. This was a very different direction for an animated Scooby-Doo movie, I really enjoyed it! I also love how Mark Hamill was one of the voice actors .
