Review of School Daze (1942) by Jeremy P — 07 Apr 2008
This movie hits me hard. My first year in college there were pressures to join a Black Sorority. I never ever dreamed of it and still wouldn't join. This movie illustrates the tension between black sororities and fraternities and what they represent.
You're either a wanna be white girl or a jigaboo and that's what we call each other. We don't tell each other we're beautiful, one has to always be better. You have to have good hair and light skinned to be considered beautiful, but that's bull and I refuse to uphold that image by joining a sorority.
I love that Spike can just attack these issues in such a creative way, that scene at Madame Re-Re's was awesome. I love it.
