Review of Scent of a Woman (1992) by Anu A — 27 Aug 2009
Scent of a Woman reminded me a lot of Gran Torino. A cranky, old man that at first you want to hate, but as you spend more time with him you realize he's still a human and just upset with the choices he's made in life. It's also very similar in that the lead actor out shines pretty much everyone else in the film. Pacino kills it as the colonel making you laugh with him at times and sad that he's not happy with his life.
The problem was the film didn't move along at a speed and at over two hours felt long. I could care less about Charlie's story and felt the interaction in the hotel room was a better climax than the one at the prep school. It's a film that will end how you expect, but the journey there was still interesting.
