Review of Scent of a Woman (1992) by Deb S — 15 May 2010
Lt. Col. Frank Slade: Oh, uh, Charlie - about your little problem - there are two kinds of people in this world: those who stand up and face the music, and those who run for cover. Cover is better.
This movie describes the friendship between two men who have mutually divergent views that hooks you in and takes you on a totally absorbing ride with a grand finale that will leave you gasping. The two are almost exact opposites, almost a Yin and a Yang, yet through the movie they learn from each other. Al Pacino gives a riveting and powerful performance as a suicidal blind colonel who wants to live the final days of his life the best way he knows how. The scene where he dances the tango with the lovely Donna played by Gabrielle Anwar, and then the finale at the school were very moving and highly entertaining and is one of my favorite moments in this movie! There is also a good supportive performance by Chris O'Donnell who plays a young bright student in prep school, who is going through difficult phase about making certain decision in his life.
