Review of Scarlet Street (1945) by Sean M — 11 Nov 2007
Lighter than most noir, but that's part of its genius. Edward G. Robinson is Christopher Cross, a pathetic cashier who falls for a young woman, who with her fiance tries to milk him for every penny he's worth.
The plot is straightforward, but the twists unforseen. Fritz Lang makes all the pieces come together brilliantly and without any gaps, leading to the powerful conclusion. It drags in the middle though, and makes you care more about what's going ot happen than what is happening.
