Review of Scarlet Street (1945) by Louis D — 02 Mar 2008
Lang has constructed what is possibly a "perfect" psychological thriller, rising above the notion that cinematic perfection is impossible. Scarlet Street is an expertly filmed analysis of the self corruption of one's innocence when working to combat forces of deceit and greed.
Lang's anti-revenge narrative features Edward G. Robinson demonstrating a range unknown to me prior to viewing this film (meek to psychotic to pathetic), which is only one of many facets responsible for Scarlet Street entering into my favorite movie ranks.
