Review of Scarface (1983) by Naomi G — 10 Oct 2015
Long films usually bore me, but Scarface is an exception. Almost a three hour film. A few parts could have been cut down, but Scarface's length is there to tell the full story. Scarface's background, style etc started the 1980's Miami Vice clothes, cars, attitude, and a rock videoish mix of music blended with artistic visual flair.
(I love the barvado) Pacino is brillaint as Tony Montana a bad guy icon, with a strong supporting cast which makes Pacino shines. De Palma creates a violent, gritty, corrupt criminal, which reflects the drug world.
The ending is over the top, but I believe the film wanted an impressionable ending. Four stars.
