Review of Scarface (1932) by Eugene Z — 05 May 2013
The ultimate gangster epic. Brilliantly directed by Brian DePalma. There hasn't been a gangster film like it since. Depending on your point of view, you will either think that Scarface is one of the best films ever made or one of the worst.
I obviously think it's one of the best. DePalma's direction is eye-popping and operatic and can hold me in thrilling suspense when it intends to. I personally love Pacino's over-the-top performance as Tony Montana.
I think it's a great, epic tale of a man who gains and looses everything. One of my personal favorites.
