Review of Scarce (2008) by Corpse M — 25 Apr 2010
I don't care what anyone thinks, I really enjoyed this movie. I understand some of the acting is horrible but you have to take into account, this film is amazingly low-budget. The two directors act in it because actors were too expensive.
This is a Canadian horror movie and one of the first modern day ones that I've seen. Yes it is brutal and does compare with foreign movies like Eden Lake and Wolf Creek as well as American ones like Hostel. I think this is really well made for an indie movie. The violence in this movie is so well done and it has put the Canadian effects artists, The Gore Brothers in the horror genre.
The three villains are well created. The best is Ivan, the main villain. He is the one who brings the main characters into his house and then begins torturing them. The other two villains, Wade and The Slob are well made too. All together, I think the villains in this are alot better than Jigsaw.
I really think that this movie will put Canada back on the map for horror film making and hopefully the directors decide to do something in this genre again because they did a great job.
The Most Messed up part of the movie: The Slob`s basement was pretty wrong.
10/10.
