Review of Scanners (1981) by Daniel S — 20 May 2008
The movie doesn't make good on its premise. Not only does it not tell us very much about the scanners (lots of questions about what they can and can't do), it doesn't even give them a decent plotline: it would be very, very easy to replace telepathy with another abnormal ability or superpower. (In fact, "Scanners" mostly treats the telepathy as a plot device, something useful for getting the characters out of sticky situations, but not much more.).
Plus, the acting sucked. Stephen Lack reminded me a lot of Mark Hamill - not a good thing.
