Review of Scanners (1981) by Bill S — 29 Mar 2015
Another great Cronenberg classic, Scanners is a fully realized world of sci-fi horror, that if it were made today would be a franchise. I absolutely loved the world of Scanners, and even though it drags on a little while too long, Cronenberg is such a master storyteller when it comes to genre-bending horror films that you can't help but remain fully engaged the entire time.
With a great villain like Michael Ironside, I couldn't wait to see a final showdown between the scanners. The rules of the universe are clearly laid out and explained, the powers seem fully realized, and the performers seem to believe every aspect of the film.
Even 25 years later, Scanners is a thrilling adventure.
