Cronenberg's a genius!
Despite a piss-poor budget, he manages to hand in an absolutely brilliant and incredibly effective horror/action/thriller.
There are some dodgy effects in the film (dodgy, largely in part to the film being made in 1981)... but Cronenberg shows us all how to create tension, menace, revulsion and dread in a film using effective lighting... creative camera angles and through astonishing direction!
Michael Ironside does a great job and Patrick McGoohan is brilliant!
A GREAT horror classic!
