Review of Scanners (1981) by Chris H — 25 Mar 2018
On a second viewing I enjoyed it far more. More great Cronenberg. The special effects are insanely gorey and cool. The story is interesting enough though perhaps a little slow at times. Ironside is great as the bad guy; the underground leader of the scanners with Magneto-like ideals.
The actor in the lead role though I found very wooden and emotionless most of the time. I know he is meant to be a social misfit who has never learnt how to interact with people correctly but that does not he should be android-like in personality.
Or perhaps it's just the acting. Seeing McGoohan in it from The Prisoner was great. A definate horror and Cronenberg classic.
