Say Anything, arguably the first masterpiece from the great Cameron Crowe, which shows us the innocence of the first love in an unconventional off beat 80's type of way. This movie is before my time but yet resonates with a profound mystique that is timeless.

I honestly had trouble with the ending at first, regarding the father. However, this ending has grown on me. One, because it is not your typical happy ending, in that not everything works out perfectly or as one would like.

Two, Crowe is still able to show that love is unknown and not always certain, but yet is still able to obtain the essence of love itself. That is to say we put all are trust in the unknown for the sake of the emotion of love, this is Say Anything.

Crowe is also a genius when it comes to great dialogue. I love the scene where Cusack tells his friend, "She gave me a pen. I gave her my heart, she gave me a pen." Dialogue like this is what makes Say Anything fresh.

What directors like Spielberg and Coppola do with historic drama's, Crowe does with the romantic comedies.
