Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Brian S — 19 May 2011
The familiarity of these characters (the teenage ones) is uncanny. personalities, interactions, relationships....all are instantaneously recognizable. the romance between Lloyd and Diane is especially potent because if you didn't have a relationship like this--at least partially--when you were their age, you know someone who did.
the storyline with the father was an interesting twist, and it honestly didn't do much for me. it seemed like a strangely out of place element in an otherwise typical "80s teen romantic comedy.
" the ending was also a little surprising and a bit anticlimactic. it's not perfect, but overall it's a solid movie and really entertaining.
