Review of Saw IV (2007) by Scott T — 27 Nov 2010
So so addition to the Saw storyline I thought. It's beginning to lose its way now I think. The full on autopsy at the beginning will keep the gorehounds happy but strangely enough I've stuck to watching the Saw franchise for the storylines and this addition was pretty dull and seemingly backtracks to other sequels to add an element of intricacy.
I just found it all a bit unnecessary. The cops storyline in it was boring and the only thing that interested me was the Jigsaw backstory. The problem I have with this is (much like that of Hannibal Rising), if too much backstory is told then the mystique that makes the serial killer (in both stories) frightening becomes less scary and interesting.
The traps are as disgusting as ever and Tobin Bell's voice is still able to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. I'll carry on watching the remaining additions but I think this is easily the weakest of the four movies.
