Review of Saw IV (2007) by Silvestre S — 23 May 2016
What people forget is that this is set at the same time as Saw III and all credit to the writers because it does a great job. Even though he was in the third film for a brief moment it was good to get Costas Mandylor into the picture, playing Detective Hoffman (Briefly in Saw III).
Tobin Bell reprises his role but only in flashbacks, which work really well and we look further into Jigsaw's sceme. The direction may not always be up to standard (Though Darren Lynn Bousman has done well on Saw II and III) but the storyline is awesome with the cast on good form and was surprised to see Donnie Walhburg back in it.
Not everything about these Saw films are predictable. Nice simple twist at the end. Even though Saw IV have new writing staff, they have done well to keep the film near to fresh and carry on the duty to write more for the series.
The fourth film and still manages to grab you, even if the gimmick is slightly wearing off. If you love the films like I do (And that's ALOT!!!!) Then you'll love this film too. Still going strong.
The traps are great too. It's deeply unsettling; just like a horror movie should be. It's amazing that we're into the fourth film and the franchise is still going strong. Nice twist.
