Review of Saw IV (2007) by Ozzdeath S — 02 Oct 2014
31 of 31 #5 "SAW 4 Unrated" released in 2007 - I see this is becoming a yearly tradition - with that comes more movies on a regular basis but we know the quality suffers greatly and SAW 4 is a bit of a love hate relationship to me, it has some good things and it does have some fun traps and a little bit of a twist.
Well...Jigsaw is dead....complete with a full autopsy to open the movie, its fairly well done if you see the unrated cut, granted Jigsaws brain seems awfully small to me ?? I seen actual autopsies and brains tend to be a bit bigger than what's feauture here but I am nitpicking at this point.
A tape is found inside Jigsaw's stomach and we hear Jigsaw's words....his work will continue and Costas Mandylor playing Detective Hoffman all of a sudden seems like he is going to be the new cop on the block resolving the Jigsaw issue.
We also have a new character Agent Strahm played by Scott Patterson and he is with the FBI and this dude does not trust anybody, Jigsaw is a big problem for him and he is determined to get to the bottom of this.
The traps this time are revolving around Officer Rigg played by Lyriq Bent, he is bothered he couldn't save a lot of his teammates on part 2 and 3 and wouldn't you know....this leads to a series of setups and traps where he will learn that he can't save everybody.
We also see more Jigsaw here than in any of the other 3 previous entries via flashbacks, and boy do we get a MASSIVE back story on how certain events pushed the creationg of Jigsaw, it is probably the best part of the movie as I find the character extremely interesting and its awesome seeing that it was the flaws of people that pushed him to the edge and I totally love that.
Before this movie was even released word around the internet was that the ending of part 5 was already written and it doesn't surprise me as part 4 feels like a big setup for the next installment.
FINAL WORDS FOR SAW 4.
Best Trap: The opening trap - two people chained to a contraption, one has eyes shut and the other has a mouth shut and you do not need much of a setup - it speaks for itself.
Best Death: Massive ice blocks to the head to a New Kid No Longer On The Block made me smile a lot.
Moment that made me go WTF ?? Hmmm, I have some issues with the ending, but I see it being necessary to create the entire primary plotpoint of part 5.
