Review of Saw III (2006) by Wesley W — 22 Apr 2015
In my opinion, I think this a very good movie and I don't feel that it deserves a 28% rating. I don't know what it is with the critics when it comes to these movies. I guess they don't like the violence, it's not their cup of tea, and they don't pay attention to its story and character development, because those are the things that this film has along with the gory violence.
In this third entry, I feel that this is slightly better than Saw II but still wasn't quite as good as the first movie. This film for me had plenty to offer when it came to the suspense, tension, directing, most of the acting, and lastly, the gore.
The traps here are bigger, grander in scale, more brutal, and more disturbing. These scenes aren't only well made for what they are, they put me on the edge of my seat, and they also brought in moral dilemmas for the main character to decide whether that person shall live or not.
In the film, Angus Macfadyen also from Braveheart plays a father who has lost his son to a irresponsible driver and he is put through a series of tests confronting people who were involved with the death of his son.
I thought that Angus Macfadyen gave a solid performance and I really felt for his character. His tests provided for a interesting tale of the will to forgive others for the bad things they have done to him and testing the vengeance side of his character.
Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, while lying on a bed throughout the whole movie, I thought still gave a good performance for what he had to do and he shined in the final half of the film. Darren Lynn Bousman once again directed the film well and it was never boring for me.
Shawnee Smith as Amanda had the most to do in this movie and I thought she was good as well. Some people might find her annoying as the film goes on, but I was never annoyed by her. You really see the emotional side of Amanda here and there was more development on how she started working with Jigsaw and how working with him saved her from her other reckless lifestyle.
Charlie Clouser's score here was once again fantastic and it made scenes more tense and gripping for me. One big problem that I did have with the movie was Bahar Soomekh's acting. I didn't think her acting was good here and she should have practiced more before filming the movie.
Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was and it didn't have to be anything Oscar worthy for me to enjoy it.
