Review of Saw III (2006) by Johnathon W — 08 Oct 2017
Solid but disappointing entry to the franchise, especially since it follows up the superb "Saw II". The cast is solid for the most part, with the great Tobin Bell of course owning the screen as Jigsaw, despite being confined to a hospital bed (even during brain surgery, you can't take your eyes off him).
Behind the camera, Darren Lynn Bousman crafts another twisty thriller, with some of the best traps of the series (the Rack is the thing of nightmares). However, the first part feels rushed as some characters are dispatched and the overall film feels incomplete (you really have to watch this with "Saw IV" to get the full story).
As a result, it works more as part of the franchise than a stand alone. Great for "Saw" fans but doesn't work so well outside of the series.
