If you're a Mary Poppins fan (like me) I feel you'll keep forgiving this film. But it really is paper thin.
Thompson is excellent, but she typically is. Whitford and Giamatti are also on reliable form. Hanks whilst fine, is obviously playing a Disney-approved Walt.
It's Australia which lets this down. The Outback back story is important to the narrative, but it just looks like a bolted-on (cheaper) film. The flashbacks just annoy.
