Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Yash B — 17 Apr 2014
This is a good hearted, genuinely moving, and sometimes very gut wrenching to watch film. It suffers from some pacing issues but it is definitely a fascinating story. Emma Thomson is wonderful in the role of P.
L. Travers and her character starts off very dislikable. Eventually she experiences some changes and we see her story through various flashbacks. Speaking of the flashback sequences, Colin Farrell is absolutely wonderful in his role as well.
It's those heartbreaking flashback sequences that steal the show here. Throw in a lot of great performances including Tom Hanks and Paul Giamatti, you have a stellar picture. I think this movie is a lot darker than I had expected for a film that was released during the holidays andI was pleasantly surprised by aspects of it.
If the pacing had been better, I would have enjoyed it more for sure but nonetheless, this is a heartfelt and sweet journey thats well worth a watch.
