Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Jim S — 21 Aug 2014
The problem that I have with this film is that Mrs. Travers (as portrayed by Emma Thompson), is not a very likeable person. Now I'm sure they've taken some artistic license with regards to how she really was, but she comes off as an absolute bitch, at least in the beginning of the film.
Surrounded by Tom Hanks and a cast of very talented character actors, after a while she becomes more likeable because we ultimately know that the results of her constant nagging, is that "Mary Poppins" became a very successful film.
Unfortunately, I felt that the film drags and I was kind of looking forward to it ending. And I'm also hard pressed to think of Walt Disney as a hero, even when he's portrayed by the ultimate American movie hero, Tom Hanks.
