Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Alisha M — 17 Sep 2014
A 1-2 punch from the master Tom Hanks. He earlier did Captain Phillips and now this. And somehow he didn't get an Oscar for either. Hmm. Oh, well that doesn't matter, what matters is that the movie is very good.
Now, even though Hanks was great, as he always is, I won't take the spotlight away from Emma Thompson. She herself have a masterful performance as Travers. Her unwillingness to not give Mary Poppins to Disney and her protection of the rights makes her surprisingly likeable.
Let's not forget Farrell, possibly the best performance from him in a long time. This movie was so good I forgot Disney made it, because Disney isn't known it's live action dramas without childish humor.
This was a very adult movie for us to enjoy the back story of how Mary Poppins came to the big screen.
