Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Bailey C — 22 Jul 2015
Saving Mr. Banks was perhaps the only movie that held my attention enough with a compelling enough story to make me go back to the theatre more than one time to see it. In fact, I saw this movie at least four times because I just absolutely fell in love with it. The storyline is compelling, it's told in a way that makes people who ordinarily wouldn't care about the subject matter really sympathize.
Of course, I also feel compelled when discussing this movie to mention the historical aspects of it, and I'm far from the first person to point it out. There are some things twisted around in this movie, mostly because it's a Walt Disney release and they want to make their "Uncle Walt" maintain a squeaky-clean image for the camera. So, in adding more details to lighten up Disney a bit and adding some that are unfairly hard on P.L. Travers', this movie does have its inaccuracy.
Overall, I thought this movie was simply brilliant. Emma Thompson captivates the audience and really blew me away with her stellar performance in this movie, and Tom Hanks did a wonderful job of portraying the man who made it all possible, Walt Disney.
Sparing none of the iconic people who would've been around behind the scenes during the making of Mary Poppins, this movie is a beautiful and sentimental tale about a woman with a haunted past who is trying to protect her creation.
This movie even reveals some nice back-story for Disney as well, giving little glimpses into the childhood life of the real Walt.
After seeing this movie, I immediately watched Mary Poppins.
