Review of Saving Face (2004) by Raymond L — 16 Jun 2007
This is one of the movies I watch when I'm sad. The ending is a little too wacky to be believed, but it's smooth sailing up until then. Michelle Krusiec (Wil) and the always excellent Joan Chen (Ma) are great as a daughter and mother struggling to understand each other, and Lynn Chen is intense and radiant as Vivian; it's easy to see why Wil falls for her.
Alice Wu's surefooted direction and gorgeous shots add to an almost perfect package. An excellent first film.
