The romance is sweet, and Joan Chen is amazing (but she's Joan Chen so-o...). I like it right up until the happy ending, which seems forced. I think the NYT review said they appreciated the sentiment if not the delivery, and I agree very much.
I would like the end better if it felt more coherent with the picture as a whole. BUT, I think this is a lovely little movie and would probably be good paired with Ang Lee's Xi yan/The Wedding Banquet.
