Review of Saved (2009) by Nick A — 06 Sep 2008
A funny teen comedy and religious parody that strives to remind all of us of our imperfections but of our ability to be loved and to love. The film has a focused sight on hip, religious teenagers, taking light jabs at those who, at their young age have found their true calling, have figured out religion, etc.
As a satire its at times too exaggerated, and its side of teen comedy converts SAVED! from clever satire to somewhat typical teen comedy, coming of age story. The film doesn't go without asking questions, but it does so in a cliche presentation.
the pregnancy subplot introduced in the 2nd act makes it hard for one not to imagine a younger Diablo Cody in 2004 taking notes.
