Review of Saved! (2004) by Anders R — 28 Aug 2011
Very funny movie about confused Christian teenagers. One of them tries to save her boyfriend from gayness by sleeping with him. She ends up pregnant and starts to question what she believes in.
All the Christian teenagers love for Jesus is very much over the top which of course makes it very funny. Without the exaggeration there would be little left to ridicule. And the story is quite unbelievable. A young petite girl goes through a whole pregnancy without anyone at school ever noticing. But I buy into it because it's all done with such warmth and good sense of humor. Macaulay Culkin is superb as a slightly bitter teenager in a wheelchair. Jena Malone is great as usual and it's always nice to see Mary-Louise Parker. Mandy Moore overplays her role but it all fits together somehow. Don't expect too much and you'll have a good time.
