Review of Save Yourselves! (2020) by Umaumai — 11 Jan 2021

This was a hard one for me to review and rate. I hate the two main characters so much. I must say that’s because the actors portraying them did such a phenomenal job. While it’s somewhat the point of the movie not to like them, in a small way, I almost turned the movie off several times as the sever amount of annoyance just kept building for me.

They are the kind of people that I go to great lengths to avoid. That said the suspense and tension going on in the background kept me watching in hopes of seeing any and all of the hijinks that could happen (mostly for what could happen to them).

The story is fairly simple, but there are some complex situations that the leads have to navigate. I wouldn’t call it funny, but I get why it’s billed as a “Sci-Fi Comedy” even if it’s just as little a sci-fi as much as it isn’t that funny.

I’m trying to think of a film to compare it to, but right now in the heat of just watching it I can’t pull one from the top of my head. I think that’s why in the end I liked it so much. And the characters grew on me.

Because of all of that I’d recommend watching it.
