Review of Savages (2012) by Don C — 02 Jan 2013
Fairly solid movie overall -- well put together and a nice variety of characters involved to keep it interesting and keep the drama and tension moving the story along nicely. Wasn't as violent as I was expecting (I was expecting A LOT of violence) but it is still extremely and graphically violent.
I thought this was not gratuitous and actually served to get across the sheer brutality and dilemmas that drug warlords deal with in their line of business. Disturbing because shit that disturbing actually happens in real life.
There are some no so believable parts of the story -- the character "O" lacks substance or development and it isn't entirely convincing why the two leads are so in love with her and her with them, likewise, her interactions with the drug lord Elena start to seem a bit strange and out of place as it develops.
