Review of Savages (2012) by Zane G — 21 Jan 2013

Savages is impressive brutal, sexy and dark. Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben and Chon run a lucrative homegrown industry raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. These guys also share a one of a kind love with the extraordinary Ophelia. Things are going great until they turn down this opportunity when a woman asks to be part of their business and she has her men take Ophelia. That's when things become savage.

Savages offers suspense, some cool action sequences, but the story is very generic. Basically the entire movie is generic. Taylor Kitsch is in this for his 3rd movie for 2012 and it doesn't do well. I mean I liked him in John Carter and he was ok in this but this movie wasn't great. Aaron Johnson is in this and he's actually good. Blake Lively stars in this she's not bad. My favorite character in this entire movie would either be John Travolta playing the federal agent or Benicio Del Toro. Benicio Del Toro is gritty, scary and very slick in this film. John Travolta was pretty good in this but he isn't at his best. Other then that this movie isn't all that great. Oliver Stone has given us great films such as JFK and Platoon, but his most recent movie Savages seems really lazy. Savages is ok if you're really stoned.
