Review of Savages (2006) by Tricia C — 23 Apr 2010
This movie proves that good acting is not enough to make a good movie. I know that critics can't bear to bash anything with Linney and Hoffman both in it and Slums of Beverly Hills (the director's best) was a very good movie.
But this is a downer almost without relief. How they could sell it as a comedy is beyond belief? Supposedly Linney was abused as a child by her parents and dad is the focus of this movie but they never tell us how she was abused nor does she confront dad about it in his dying months.
This is mostly about the brother-sister relationship but I came away thinking nothing remarkable or very interesting there. They fight, they make up, they fight some more, they make up some more. Ones a playwright, the other a drama professor.
Yawn.
