Review of Savage Grace (2007) by Private U — 13 Jan 2009
?Savage Grace? tries to shock just for the purpose of well, shock. It?s as if the filmmaker tried to conceal a lack of substance with a series of melodramatic sequences designed only to unnerve the audience.
What builds as an effective look at the falsities in upper class society turns into a laughably sensational examination of incest. Julianne Moore delivers a blistering performance as the pushy mom who eventually seduces her son. However, the script ultimately lets her down. The last thirty minutes are almost dreadful enough to be worthy of admission alone. But not quite..
