Julianne Moore has a superbly affecting performance and does extremely well here. The costume, set-design and general feel is right for the time period. The rest of the cast is good but none of their performances stood out nearly as much.
As well the pacing can be very frustrating and tedious at times, it goes from one scene to the next but has no real fluid sense of motion. Yes there are some shocking moments, but they didn't feel nearly as "shocking" as I'm sure they were probably intended to be.
