Review of Sausage Party (2016) by Dee R — 01 Dec 2016
Sausage Party is a slightly better Food Fight, though that's still debatable.
Sadly, this movie was less enjoyable than people made me believe it was. Or I made myself believe it would be. I really wanted to like this insanity, I enjoyed the trailer enough to want to check it out, after all.
I knew it wasn't a children's movie, I didn't go into it unprepared, but the amount of "fuck" you heard throughout the movie genuinely pissed me off. Like they didn't know of a proper way to earn that mature rating, so they tried to add as much "cool speak" they could possibly get away with. It's always sex jokes and curses in these movies, even though it's proven to destroy characters and story when done excessively. We can't all be South Park, you need to actually possess the talent to be rude and tell a story at the same time before you decide to make a movie like this. Why should I care about these annoying characters, who've been annoying the entire movie long, when they finally make one good point?
Someone's said it before, that mature content is always less mature than the common programming for children. The irony stings.
The overall message the movie tried to convey was to be appreciated, but I don't think Sausage "fucking" Party is the right flick to tell that message. That orgy scene at the end. Just. What a tremendous waste of time sitting through that horror, and it kept going on for so long, it truly detracted the little value the movie still had at that time.
And that whole scene with the 4th wall break at the end was just utter shit, I've never frowned so hard in my sad life.
The only joke that made me chuckle even a little was the Nazi "juice" joke during the horrible intro song, and that truly says it all.
