Review of Satyricon (1969) by Martin T — 23 Nov 2009
The acting is awful, so much ludicrous leering and fake, lusty laughter. The story flutters from one pointless event to another, with a dash of poorly-delivered poetry or philosophy. And the UGLINESS is dreadful, torturous to sit through.
But around the halfway point it gets interesting. The narrative thread is thin, but it's there. By the end, I was attached to Encolpio. There are enough redeeming qualities to make the film worthwhile, and I'm sure it will be a long time before I forget it.
