Review of Satyricon (1969) by Scott C — 15 Apr 2017
Pretty faithful, at least in parts, to the original Roman classics which survives only in pieces and episodes, this Fellini film allows the director to indulge in his many flights of fancy. The resulting film feels avant-garde, experimental, and incomplete itself, more about tone and colour and decadence.
Fellini made better episodic films, like 8 1/2, but this is a rich sendup of imperial Rome.
