Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Richard H — 14 May 2009
This film is very good but you can see that it is a simple re hash of Rocky but dancing but I still loved it. The story is very cliched and when you read the synopsis for the film you cant help but think rocky because it is that similar.
The acting is superb and Travolta is the film he gives such a great performance its a shame he did shit like Battlefield Earth and Be Cool. The music is what makes the film the classic it is today, with classic songs from the bee gees and other great bands from the 70's.
The film as a whole is really great but when the hour mark hits the characters arcs take massive jumps and it feels like the filmmakers had to cut some things to keep the running time down which is a shame because this film could have been a real classic like flashdance, rocky and dirty dancing (haven't seen yet but will do soon).
Overall Travoltas performance and the music stole the film but with little there I feel this cvould have made much more of an impact thatn me left scratching my head.
