Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Matthew F. J — 12 Jun 2014
This is the film of a generation and I finally got the opportunity to watch it on a big screen. wow times have really changed, costumes, attitudes, music, behaviors.... everything is so 70's! But you know what somehow almost 40 years later this film still has an edge and remain a fantastic piece of film making about the era of disco balls, platform shoes and big pants.
Boy if today you were to dress like this or even dance like they do you would be called queer all the way. Definitely interesting to see how each era has it's own vibe and codes. Saturday night Fever remains one of the most widely acclaimed film ever and if you watch it you will understand why.
Camera angles, dialogues and dynamic between characters are extremely well written. It feels a little old fashion but the core of the story is eternal and timeless.... this might be why this film keeps playing and entertain crowds around the world.
BTW, Travolta no matter what you think of him, is a master and a great dancer. Watching this film reminded me how much of a talented and fascinating actor he has been.
