Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Jim F — 15 Sep 2012
Iconic 70's movie. In my opinion, there is no real start or end to this movie. It picks up a guy where he is already a name and is already great at doing his thing. It ends with the death of a friend and maybe a point in Tony Manero's life where he realizes he just needs to grow up.
He doesn't conquer the world or anything like that. Tony Manero is actually a nice guy. He's a little selfish and can be single minded, but he's far from arrogant and intelligent enough to learn from his mistakes.
This movie excels in the extended disco scenes. The family conflicts are not over the top, and you can see he is part of a loving family. All the scenes, all the quotes and such are well put together.
