Review of Satin Rouge (2002) by Mireya M — 17 Jul 2007
Very relevant to the current debate on the role of women in Islamic societies. The film manages to abandon the stereotypes and the preconceptions, and rather focuses on details, textures, habits, costumes, colours.
It is provoking but by no means intrusive or patronising. Just shows us the life of a mature mom in Tunisia who re-discovers herslef and challenges her own boundaries to find out how the forbidden world looks like.
