Review of Satantango (1994) by Mike M — 06 Jun 2007
Achieves the purest possible distillation of a particular arthouse aesthetic and forms - not coincidentally - perhaps the least commercial movie ever made... Yes, it's hard-going in places - a cinema that exposes characters and viewers alike to the elements, the K2 of film - but Tarr has an artist's eye for mundane or everyday detail, and the characters aren't so very far removed from you or I.
