Review of Satantango (1994) by Dominique L — 04 Jul 2007
One of the most important films of the 90's. Bela Tarr has created a new genre that defies any simple classification. Almost in real time; its 7.5 hours long; dismal; black & white and depressing but I loved it! It is a radical, uncompromising, and near definitive portrayal of the dissolution of the communist world through the eyes of a small collective in Hungary.
There are so many moments that left a profound and enduring impression, that I would be happy to watch it many times over.
