Review of Santa Sangre (1989) by Mad M — 25 Nov 2012
An outstanding piece of filmmaking that covers the child-like wonders and abstractions of a crazy person, but it is so filled with intense beauty and emotion that it absorbs you more wholly than expected, which is probably the most unpredictable thing about this wildly unpredictable film.
It uses a concentrated thought process to create a dense, literate atmosphere where it can do things and not have to say why or how, it can just do things, and we will feel for it, and everything done in this film is all done based around those thoughts.
One of the certain masterworks of the 80's.
