Review of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) by Terri H — 01 Jan 2009
There's a lot of camp value here, but as an actual film "Santa" is devoid of practically any kind of merit.
The acting is horrible, the dialogue is wooden, the special effects are ridiculous (I do love the man in the polar bear suit, but not for a legitimate reason), and the story is stunning in its audacious ludicrousness.
The Martians kidnap Santa Claus (John Call) to bring the cheer of Christmas to their children's dismal, joyless lives.
Anyone wonder why this isn't remembered as a timeless Christmas classic?
Still, "Santa" isn't nearly as bad as many of the movies given the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" treatment; that honor probably goes to the atrocious "The Killer Shrews." Perhaps..... So many films, so little time....
