Review of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) by James H — 10 Dec 2011
"All this trouble over a fat man in a red suit!".
Martian kids are feeling down :(.
WHY, you ask? Because they have no Christmas celebrations on Mars! After watching Earth programming on TV they discover the magic of the holidays and it soon grows in popularity among the planet's children. In attempts to end the silliness, a Martian expedition sets out to the North Pole to kidnap Santa Claus. But along the way complications occur when they also kidnap two children attempt to persuade them to not go through with the job through the magic of Christmas cheer.
Take your pick.... Plan 9, Manos, The Room, Garbage Pail Kids... take your pick. There are so many horrible movies out there, intentional or otherwise. But there is no other movie that truely fails then this film of merry and bright. And yet none of them quite wins like this film either. It's just so horrible that it's actually quite amusing. Anything that can go wrong WILL go wrong. From stage-hands walking in, bad acting, misspelling, awkward plotholes with props as well as story.... it's all there. It's ALL there. But nonetheless it's rather amusing how silly it can be if you love your b-movies. This film is quite unavoidable. See it. Now.
