Review of Sanctum (2011) by Jason V — 27 Jun 2012
Know how horror movies are all stocked with characters you just know are going to end up as fodder for the killer? Yup, Sanctum follows that same mold. Know how at least one character is always going to betray the others? Yup, happens here.
Know how there's always one death early on to show this movie is going to be "new and unique"? Yup. There isn't much to recommend in Sanctum aside from the photography, though even that ends up not being enough.
Rhys Wakefield's performance is dreadful, none of the character elicit any kind of emotion aside from "meh," the relationships are never fleshed out and no one is remotely smart, aside from when the script demands it.
Oh, and be on the lookout for all the bits of foreshadowing in the first act which come back to play parts in the finale. Just when all hope seems lost, someone pulls an oxygen tank out of his rear end.
(Well, not really, but that's what it seems like.).
