Review of Sanctum (2011) by Maisling — 26 Jun 2020
For me this this like a film of two aspects. One good, the other(very)bad. The camerawork and visuals are obviously impressive, but it's let down by the badly written goofy dialogue. to be fair the actors seem to be doing their best, but I the script seemed to have been written by some nerdy goofball who thinks they're funnier than they are.
Literally every time somebody told a joke I cringed so hard it almost hurt. Frankly the criminally cringe banter between the characters ruined what could have been a very good movie. I'm constantly amazed how these big Hollywood studios and Execs keep signing of on such clearly dodgy dialogue.
The script is the heart of a movie and the dialogue is the heart of a script. To ignore that is like polishing a turd. This movie is a nicely polished turd: But a turd is always a turd, even when you wrap pretty ribbons round it.
